Soil Cation Exchange Capacity Tester

Equipment Introduction:

The soil cation exchange capacity meter is a specialized device specifically designed to measure soil cation exchange capacity (CEC), which refers to the total amount of various cations that can be adsorbed by soil colloids. It operates based on electrochemical principles, by applying a solution under certain conditions to soil samples and measuring the ability of cations absorbed on the surface of soil particles to exchange with cations in the solution.

Equipment Principle:

According to "Determination of Cation Exchange Capacity of Forest Soil" (LYT 1243-1999), the soil is repeatedly treated with a 1 mol/L ammonium acetate solution to make it saturated with ammonium ions. The excess ammonium acetate is washed away with 95% ethanol, and then magnesium oxide is added. Distillation is carried out using the nitrogen determination distillation method. The ammonia distilled is absorbed by a boric acid solution and titrated with a standard acid solution. The cation exchange capacity of the soil is calculated based on the amount of ammonium ions.
